Interior PPF vs exterior PPF — they are not the same thing

Search "PPF" in India and you will mostly find detailing studios quoting ₹35,000 to ₹1,00,000 to wrap the outside of your car. That is exterior paint protection film. It is a good product, it needs a professional, and it takes two or three days.

Interior PPF is a different job entirely. How to fit precut interior PPF (10 minutes)

Park in shade and let the cabin coolDo not do this on a car that has been baking in 45°C sun. Warm plastic makes the adhesive grab before you have positioned it. Early morning or a covered parking spot is ideal.
Clean the panel properlyWipe with a microfiber cloth, then go over it once with the alcohol wipe if your kit includes one. Any dust left behind becomes a permanent bump under the film.
Dry fit before you peelHold the precut piece over the panel and check the alignment against buttons, vents and edges. Note which corner you will start from.
Peel back only one cornerExpose about a third of the adhesive, line up that edge exactly, then press it down. Do not peel the whole backing at once.
Squeegee outward from the centreUse a credit card wrapped in microfiber. Push air bubbles toward the nearest edge in one direction, not back and forth.
Leave it 24 hours before cleaningThe adhesive needs a day to fully bond. Skip the interior spray, skip the wet wipes, and do not pick at the edges.

Self-healing, explained: These films have a top coat that softens slightly in heat. Light surface scratches close up on their own — park in the sun for an hour, or hold a hairdryer 15cm away for thirty seconds, and fine marks disappear. Deep gouges will not heal, but the film has already taken damage your trim would otherwise be wearing.

Frequently asked questions

Is interior PPF the same as the PPF a detailing studio sells?

Same material, completely different job. A studio wraps your exterior paint for ₹35,000 to ₹1,00,000 over two or three days. Interior precut PPF protects one cabin panel, costs ₹499 to ₹1,499, and you fit it yourself. Many owners do both — they are not alternatives to each other.

Will it turn yellow in Indian heat?

Interior panels sit out of direct UV for most of the day, which is the main cause of yellowing. Keep the film off surfaces that get baked through the windscreen all afternoon, and use a sunshade when parked — the same advice that protects your dashboard anyway.

Can I remove it later without damaging the trim?

Yes. Warm the film gently with a hairdryer and peel it back slowly at a low angle. It comes away clean without residue. This is exactly why owners fit it before resale — pull the film off and the panel underneath is untouched.

Does PPF over a touch panel affect the controls?

No. The film is thin enough that capacitive touch controls on the Harrier and Safari climate strip work exactly as before. You will not notice any change in response.

My car is not in this list. What now?
